Wanted: Artists for the 2010 Images
of Freedom poster contest
The Columbia Association (CA), in partnership with Corridor Transportation Corporation and the Howard County Office of Public Information, is hosting the seventh annual Images of Freedom poster contest in honor of Black History Month for Howard County middle and high school students.
Artists are asked to creatively interpret the theme “Images of Freedom.” Five entries will be selected for display on the sides of Howard County Transit buses throughout February. In February, participants and their families will be honored with an awards reception and gallery show at Columbia Art Center. All submitted entries will be displayed in the Columbia Art Center gallery from February 18-28, in honor of Black History Month.
To be eligible for the contest, artists must be middle or high school age Howard County residents. Artwork should be submitted on white 8.5 by 11 inch paper, landscape orientation. Artwork should not contain controversial words. Literal drawings are preferred. Accepted mediums are pencil, colored pencil, ink, colored ink, markers, colored markers, paint, collage or photography. Because winning artwork will be reproduced, artists are asked to ensure their entries have sufficient contrast and color intensity.
Each artist must include his or her name, age, school, home address, e-mail and phone number on a separate sheet of paper. Entries should be mailed or delivered to Images of Freedom poster contest, Attn: Kelly Cooper, Columbia Association, 10221 Wincopin Circle, Columbia, MD 21044. The deadline is Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at 5pm. For more information, call at 410-715-3104.
