"Columbia Matters" treats deserving kids to makeovers
"Columbia Matters," Columbia Association's
TV show, recently treated two deserving kids to back-to-school
makeovers. Lord & Taylor and Salon Cielo hair salon at
the Mall in Columbia also donated clothing and services.
Roxanne
Harris nominated her son, Nick, 10, who attends Waterloo Elementary,
for the makeover. In her application letter, she wrote: "Being
a single working mom, I don't always
have extra time or money to get everything my children need,
not to mention what they want. Nick never makes a big fuss
about needing anything... This will help to keep his
handsome smile going!!!"
Harris said her son has improved
in reading, learned to play the French horn in school and has
been earning high grades. Nick picked out a pair of jeans and
a long-sleeved red and white shirt.
"It was cool and fun because it's my first time
on TV and on the Internet," Nick said. "I'm
just so happy about it because I got new clothes. I feel so
much like a movie star."
Shannon Hindman also nominated
her daughter, Jayda-Bree, 9, who attends Waterloo Elementary.
She wrote: "... She
has been a dedicated daughter, friend, student and all-around
child. ... By Jayda receiving a makeover, it will boost
her self esteem and give her an edge to strive and feel better
on the inside for the school year."
Jayda picked out
blue jeans, a plaid skirt and a pink and white top. She said
her outfit is very cute.
