Give it a Spin on the Potter’s Wheel: Saturday, September 11, from 2-5pm at Columbia Art Center. For ages 18 and up. Have you always wanted to try your hand at making something on the potter’s wheel? Well join us and see what it’s all about. In this one-day, three-hour workshop participants will cover methods of centering clay and throwing bowl and cylinder forms. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon. Students will decorate finished pieces using commercial under glaze and slips. Please allow a minimum of two weeks for the drying and firing of finished work. $35-Residents/$45-Non-residents. Information: 410-730-0075

Family Get Together: Friday, September 24, from 7-9pm at Columbia Gym. Ages 4 to 10. Calling all Moms and Dads – come and enjoy a special evening with your children. Activities include games, music and more. End the evening with a sundae party. CA Mbrs, $8 per family; CA Resident Non-Mbrs, $10 per family; Non-Mbrs, $12 per family.

Rock Fest: Friday, September 24, from 6-10pm at The Other Barn in Oakland Mills. Local teen bands The Crash Modems, My Arcadia, New County and the Getaways will perform. Admission is $10. Information: 410-715-5523.

Dia de la familiaDia de la Familia: Saturday, September 25, from noon-3pm at Columbia SportsPark. This free event is held annually in commemoration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Come out for an afternoon of food, music, games and salsa-dancing competition. Information: 410-715-3104.

Metal Clay: Make Silver Jewelry with Nancy Pollack: Saturday, September 25, from 10am-4pm at Columbia Art Center. Designed for beginning and continuing students! It works like clay, looks like clay, but after a few minutes of firing, your “clay creation transforms into pure silver jewelry. Make a textured pendant, charms for a bracelet, earrings or all three, if time permits. Continuing students may choose to work independently with help from instructor on projects involving basic skills. Materials fee, which includes metal clay, will be approximately $40 and paid directly to the instructor at workshop. A list of additional supplies (readily available items) will be e-mailed at the time of registration. $60-Residents/$70-Non-residents. Information: 410-730-0075.
